There are a lot of posts going around facebook/twitter/tumblr etc about postsecondary education…

And it makes me sort of sad to see everyone roped into this mentality that you need to go to college/university. I feel like Highschools primarily just teach you how to go to school. And that’s a very broken system. Because, I’m sure you’ve heard/seen this before, when you get out of school you expect jobs to rain down upon you like a gale-force wind rustling the job tree and all the jobs are super ripe and…well you get it. You expect there to be many job offers. But the truth is that the job market is tough. BUT THAT’S NOT THE MAIN POINT HERE.

The main idea I’m pushing for is that you don’t need to go to college. I mean, unless you’re absolutely 100% sure about what it is you want to do (but how often does that bullshit miracle fucking happen, right?)  you don’t need to get into serious debt for a slip of paper announcing to the world that you’ve got qualifications.

You can be successful and lead a rich, happy life without paying off student debt.

Check out Quentin Tarantino. Did he go to film school? nope.

Is he a total badass that makes awesome movies? You bet your ass.

School doesn’t make you successful. You make yourself successful.

You don’t always have to evaluate yourself by grades.

If anything, take a year between highschool and postsecondary and just

Live a little, man.
