just got unfollowed by a 13-year-old straight edge kid

HOW ARE SO MANY KIDS STRAIGHT EDGE BEFORE THEY ARE EVEN LEGAL

Is it just me or does that not make any sense to anyone else either

kid, you’re too young to start labelling yourself.

Also you’re 13. You’re not allowed to have drugs and alcohol anyway. Your decision doesn’t make any f*cking sense.

Good reasons to be straight edge:

• History of alcoholism/substance abuse in family
• No self control
• Allergies (and other health concerns ie. liver problems, asthmatic etc)
• Phobia of drugs or alcohol (yes, they exist)
• Addictive personality
• Have, at least, tried alcohol/weed/whatever and legitimately did not enjoy themselves

Bad reasons to be straight edge:

• To be different
• Thinks* drugs and alcohol are nothing but bad news
• Being a minor
• Because your friends are straight edge

Personally I think life’s about exploring every aspect of it and I don’t understand why someone would want to shut out parts of it before they are even allowed to experience these parts for themselves.But, ultimately, what you do with your life is your business and nobody else’s… But I just don’t get it.

PS. Also apparently some straight edge doctrine includes abstinence.
